Sidekicks (U10): What a tough weekend! It started off pretty good, great defense! Majik is probably the best team in our whole division (unless the Strykers beat them) and the fact that we held them 2-1 at the half says alot about how much better we're getting. They looked at bit frustrated like maybe they thought it would be an easier first half, but they finally wore us down in the second half. It was hot, we were running around trying to stop them, and it just got exhausting! We'll have to work on endurance. They had great offense and made 7 points in the last half beating us 9-2. Now we have to get ready for Strykers who are also very good.
Practice: Monday, 9-24-07 @ 6:30 pm at Cook Park (17th & Kirby)
Game: Saturday, 9-29-07 @ 4:30pm field C3 (behind where we've been playing)
Snacks: Isabella & Brittany
SuperStars (U8): We won 8-3, but it was a tough one! Those bears were better than we thought. Maybe it was the heat? That just reminds us that we have to work hard and play hard. We held them to zero points in the first quarter; they shot some goals in the second; they caught up to us in the third quarter with a nail-biting 3-3; and finally, we resumed control of the game in the fourth & final quarter.
Practice: Thursday, 9-27-07 @ 6:30 at Cook park (17th & Kirby)
Game: Saturday, 9-30-07 @ 1:30 field B9
Snacks: Adrianna
All Teams: Remember that practice makes perfect and doing more at home will show later in our games--it'll pay off in the long run. See previous entry for home practice tips...

PRACTICING...
We know that most of the other teams in our leagues practice twice a week.
We have made the decision to practice as a team only once a week based on many factors: multiple siblings with other team/practice committments, players with other sport obligations, school homework, religious classes, distance for some travelers & gas expense, potential burnout, etc.
We know even though we live, eat, & breathe soccer during this season, some of you don't. That said, we still want the girls to be practicing at home as often as possible.
EXAMPLES: Take the ball and aim at the bricks or a sturdy fence; dribble around the trees/plants with each foot; practice those "BOOM" kicks; get sidewalk chalk and draw targets for you to aim at; throw the ball on the roof & head it when it comes down; get a sibling out there and have them try to steal your ball while you dribble or vice versa; take your soccer ball to your brothers football practice/sisters volleyball practice and get some time in....
PS: We're looking into parent/family shirts and getting pricing--so if you're interested, let us know.
Thanks........& keep practicing

Wins collected for first games of the season
WOW! Both girls teams collected wins for our first games getting our teams off to a pretty good start.
Sidekicks (U10): beat Elite FC 8-4; it started off pretty rocky with our players not sure what to expect like most first games of the season start, but after Elite FC answered each of our first 3 goals with goals of their own, the Sidekicks managed to take control of the ballgame and take the lead & keep it. The team stayed in their zones & finally found a formula. All we can say is WOW! Keep up the good work and practice, girls. While this is a huge confidence booster, the next few games will be considerably tougher.
Practice on Monday at 6:30 at Cook Park (7th & Kirby ) off of Milwaukee
Next Game: Saturday, Sept 22 @ 1:30 vs Majik on Field C2
Snacks: Victoria
SuperStars (U8): Beat the Angels 15-0; Our powerful offensive game only allowed the ball to the Angels' side of the field a handful of times before the defense kicked it back over. The new girls did wonderfully and looked like they'd been with the team forever---great chemistry. Keep coming to practice so we can work on more teambuiding.
Practice Thursday at 6:30 Cook Park (17th & Kirby) off of Milwaukee
Next Game: Saturday, Sept 22 @ 4:30pm vs Bears on B9
Snacks: Lexi & Mailey
Again, we can post any great pictures if you'll send them to us.

Fall Games Start!
Games Start on Saturday, Sept 15th!
It's always so exciting!
SideKicks (U10): Game time @ 10:30am on field C-2 (behind concession stand)
Snacks: Anissa
SuperStars (U8): Game time @ 9:00am on field B-9 (way towards the back on left)
Snacks: Bianca
Remember that the complex is always crazy (especially on the first day) so allow time to park, walk to the field, and warm up. Bring your folding/lawn chairs since the stands are gone, remember your water bottle, and shin guards.
Also, if you take any digital pictures, foward them to Angie's email (angiecerv@hotmail.com or acervantez@covhs.org) so they can be posted. We'd love to have them. We try to take them ourselves, but games days get so hectic that we sometimes get sidetracked.

Ps. The best way to improve your child's soccer abilities is to encourage them to practice in their backyards 3-4 times a week for 30 minutes a day. set up two goals (chairs, buckets, etc.) and play against them one on one. Its good exercise for adults too. The other way is to attend practice regularly. Good luck.... :)
