Game Reminder:

Date: Friday 2/29
Time: 6:00 pm (please be there by 5:40pm)
Warm up time is important, our girls play better when they are warmed up!
VS: Hot Shots

The Hot Shots will be ready for us, I spoke to one of their parents and they are out for revenge. :) They will play us harder this time!

We had a great practice saturday considering the winds were up to 45 mph. We are trying a different rotation in the forwards position so our opponents will not know what to expect of our girls.

See yall Friday!! Lets get to 5-1 ........

Another win for the SuperStars

The final score was 5-0....for us--yea!
Those Supergirls gave us a good fight in the first half, but it wasn't enough. Our defense shut them out while our offense finally got in there and scored some goals.
Our next games will be even more challenging. We're starting over in the division rotation but now those other teams will be out to beat us and try to settle the score. They even have a inside look into our team dynamics. So we'll just have to play hard.

Once again, there will be another long delay between games.

Desi plans on practicing Saturday, Feb 23 at 3:00-4:30 at Cook Park (17th & Kirby) It is suppose to be 70 degrees. See you there!!

Next Game: Friday, Feb 29th at 6:00 pm vs Hot Shots (be there by 5:40 for warm up)

Stunner...

There are no words. Our girls played hard (some were sick with fever & still gave it their all..) . They're only 7 or 8 years old and they play their hearts out...and there's nothing else you can ask from them.
Obviously, we lost 6-2. Lonestar is a great team but we are equally as good. We just can't seem to get all our magic going when we play them. Of course, we can say we were down a girl, we had some sick players still playing; they were down girls, too but it was their "newer" girls which left their better players out there.....but what it all boils down to is that we just have to play better than them next time.
Maybe it's our fault. We have built Lonestar up to be this awesome, unbeatable, talented team. Maybe the girls honestly believe they can't beat them so it's up to us to make them believe that we can beat this team (and we really, really CAN!) Yes, they are talented, but so are we. Yes, they are awesome, but so are we. And No, they are not unbeatable and we just need to prove that to ourselves more than them.
In the meantime, we will just focus on winning the next three games against the other teams we have already played before meeting up with Lonestar again.

Next game: Saturday, Feb 16th at 9:40 am vs Supergirls

Please call if you can not make it or for any questions

Third Game Down! Rivalry to Follow...

Wow! Another win 5-4: What a nail-biter... we were worried we might end up in a tie. That 4-foward offense those Pink Panthers had really wore out our defense, but their having only 2 defenders made for quick scoring work on our part.
Next, we play Lonestar and they are also 3-0. Don't let the other coach's calm demeanor fool you. His ultimate goal is to have a "select" team ready before they get to that age division. He knows we are his biggest competition indoor & outdoor and he will have his defense double-team whoever has the ball. He wants to beat us as badly as we want to beat them. He also watches our players and can call them by name if he thinks they're a threat (see Fall blog archives). This is also when Desi has to take extra blood pressure medicine because he wants to beat them just as badly and prove we're better. So ignore the yelling...and know he just wants to show everyone how great our girls really are.
On that note, we made the following observations for improvement for you to share with the girls.

Notes for improvement: (in 8 year old terms)
Defense:
1.No matter when you kick the ball away, always "power" kick it to your fowards.
2. Be ready for the other team to do some trick "cuts" and move in the other direction to get past you
3. Stay in your zone so you don't leave open room for the other team to get into your goalie's area.
4. If your goalie has to move to pick up the ball, back her up by getting in front of the open box and be ready to kick it out of there. (you might need to sketch this out for the girls on a paper for visual effect)
Offense:
1. Stay in your zones and be ready for the ball if it's power-kicked into your area
2. If the ball-handler takes the ball into your zone, be prepared to cover their zone in case they need to pass to you (you might need to sketch this out, too)
3. Call out the other persons name or 'pass' if you get in trouble and need to make a pass
4. Stay along side the person who has the ball so you are available to take a pass

Hopefully, that will give the girls some ideas until we play Lonestar. We had hoped to squeeze in a practice, but they only have late weekdays which are bad times since everyone is in school. So pick a nice day and kick that ball into the fence or whatever is strong enought to take a beating....practice makes perfect

Next Game: Saturday, Feb 9 at 10:25 am vs Lonestar (be there earlier to allow for warm up)
*Also, Sarah will be out of town so if you don't think you're coming, call so we can adjust the line-up

PS: Last day for outdoor Spring soccer sign-ups is this Saturday, too. So get out there to register or if you think you won't return, let us know. We should be in great shape to start the outdoor season since we haven't really stopped too much...
