Spring Outdoor Opening Week

Wow! That indoor season kept us in shape and we're off to a great start. The girls beat the LadyBugs 9-1. Our gameplan/line-up was thrown off a little bit by some of our girls getting there later due to softball (which we had planned for) and the others just getting there late by minutes (unplanned for). Our defense was pretty solid until that one got by. Offensively, it looks really good on paper but more than half of our attempts glanced off the goal posts. So we'll need to work on more ball control & directionality (is that a word?)
Not that we want to rack up the points and absolutely slaughter our opponents, but future games won't come this easily. We anticipate a very competitive season--one of our best yet--so we want to be prepared. Half of the teams we are scheduled to play this season have history of being very good.
Our next game is our only weekday game which they did to allow for the Kohls tournament. We play Xtreme who have a history of being really aggresive and intimidating. They have some girls who are bigger, but our girls have more soccer skills so there should not be a contest unless they have really picked up their skill level in the last few seasons.

Next game: Tuesday, April 1 vs Xtreme @ 7:15 Field B4
Practice: Thursday, April 3 (same place)
Game Again: Saturday, April 5 vs Pink Panthers @1:30

If you haven't already, get your $10 to Aleida and thank her for taking on the responsibility of snacks this season. It was a big undertaking and a new concept for us & so has far worked out really well.

PS: DIGITAL PICTURES-As always, for those over-acheivers who always remember their camera, if you will email us soccer pictures, we will get them on the blog, too.

No Team Practice Saturday

Due to players going out of town this holiday we will NOT have practice this saturday.

However I will be out at Cooke park this saturday from 3:00 - 4:00pm. I am going to work on Bianca, Anissa, and Joseph on their ball control skills. We will be working on cutting, shooting, and dribbling tricks.

You are welcome to join us. These skills will help the girls get better at ball control and allow them to make more goal attempts.

It is very important that each parent go out with their daughter 2-3 times a week in your backyard and work on dribbling and shooting. I promise they will get better and it will show in the games!!

Next Practice: Thursday March 27

Time: 6:30 - 7:45 pm

Location: Cooke Park

I need everyone there. This is our last practice before our game the following saturday. We are going to work on 2 plays and I want to run them the first game! Please be there.

Congrats on 2nd Place Finish

Great job girls on a great indoor season. It would have been nice to take one away from Lonestar, we are very close to achieving that. It almost looked like we were going to pull it off. That 1-1 tie at half time showed us we were on course to a great victory. LoneStar scored two penalty kicks and we scored one penalty kick, what that means is that girls vs girls on field would have made the final score 2-1 instead of 4-2.

Thank you Ali and Emi for helping us this indoor season! :)

We did lose one girl from our roster this season, Analysa will not be playing with us she missed the sign ups and was not allowed to come back due to the roster being full.

We welcome our new player to the team. Ali Rodriguez is now a SuperStar and will do her best to help our team.

I made a change to the practice schedule times due to a coach conflict.

Next Practice: Thursday March 20 6:30pm - 8:00pm Cooke Park a few blocks from NorthRidge elementary.

Practice is very important please make sure if you will be in town that your child attends.
Call me if you are not able to..... Coach Desi 632-6650

Great Win

What a game! The final score was 3-1. We had three players score, anytime we have several girls scoring we are getting closer to becoming unstoppable. The defense did great the Pink Panthers had some attempts at the goal but only one got through! Coach Daniel and I literally counted 20 attempts at the goal by our forwards, that is awesome! They were a lot bigger in size but our quickness was too much. Great job girls.....

We will face the Pink Panthers and Lonestar in the regular outdoor season. Our opponents are already listed on the LSA website but no schedule yet. We are once again in the tough division with most of the elite teams!

Please encourage the girls to play hard and aggressive again since we are up against Lonestar thursday. They are still undefeated.....

Next Game: Thursday March 13
Time: 6:50 pm (please be there by 6:30)
VS: LoneStar

Let one get away...

It was a hard fought battle that we let get away. The girls played hard we just could not get the ball in the goal! They beat us to the ball 2 out of every 3 times. The positive thing we got out of this game is that coach Daniel and I have been able to pinpoint what we need to work on before outdoor season.

We are going to concentrate on increasing speed, ball control, power kicking and aggressiveness attack to the ball. I will have plenty of drills ready to achieve these goals this season.

A good idea to work on at home is to go to WWW.YouTube.com and type in soccer skills. There are many moves the girls can work on at home to improve their ball handling. We will learn 2 or 3 this season also. Tricking the defenders will allow more attempts at the goal !!

Next Game: Sunday March 9
Time: 1:oopm (be there by 12:45pm)
VS: Pink Panthers

Whats at stake: If we win we lock 2nd place no matter what happens against Lonestar.
If we lose we will tie with Hot Shots for second place unless we beat Lonestar.
